The objective of this research line is the development of multiobjective optimization problems and their resolution for the Systhesis and Integrated Design of processes and advanced control systems. In this way, it is possible to determine simultaneously the number, type and dimensions of the process units, the controller parameters and the optimal operating point in order to minimize building and operating costs while guaranteeing some dynamical properties of the resulting system. More precisely the objectives are the following:
- Development of algorithmic synthesis methodologies.
- Development of techniques of Integrated Design of processes and their advanced control systems.
- Development of optimization algorithms based on artificial intelligence techniques.
- Application of the methodologies to the activated sludge process in urban wastewater treatment plants.
